Plastic is made of synthetic polymer materials, which are fossil-based and bio-based polymers.
In a traditional grade table of plastic there are 7 classifications as below.
There are 380 million tons of plastic produced each year, which is nearly equivalent to the weight of our entire human population. Unfortunately, 50% of these plastics are for single use purposes. Today we have more than 7.3 billion tons of plastic. This is due to the plastic lifespan of 20 to 500 years depending on the material. Plastic water bottle will be around for 450 years and baby diapers for 500 years for it to fully decompose.
If this is such an issue why do people still use it like nothing happened? Most importantly, why are we still producing it when we clearly know that it is harmful for us and for the generations to come? This is certainly a mystery that we have not been able to solve, but clearly some are ignoring the fact and claim that it is “okay”.
Let’s talk about the advantage’s plastic brings to our daily life. It is a state-of-the-art creation representing lightweight, transparent, durable, hygienic protection, odorless, and easy to reshape into specific form. It seems there are absolutely nothing better than such existence. If any other material dares to face plastic, it would be like racing against Usain Bolt on a 100-meter dash. On top of all these significances, it is the most affordable form of material offered in the world.
In all forms of glory there is an Achilles weak spot. In the case of plastic, it is more like the 7 wonders of world destruction. Find out more from Secrets of Ordinary Plastic.
